What is ARBWCI?

We are the Autonomous Robotic Boat for Water Canal Inspection team (or ARBWCI for short) and we are tasked with designing and building a boat to scan the canals down in Phoenix. The canals are only drained every 5 - 10 years and over that time period the water in them gets dirty which allows sediment and general breakage which leads to excessive water loss and quality degradation. The boat we are tasked with designing will be able to scan around a mile of the canal less then 30 minutes and can be easily used by the people taking care of the canal. To do this we have a fish sensor attached to the boat which will be able to pick up any sort of buildup we are looking for. We are also planning to have wheels on our design to allow for safe and easy deployment and recovery.
