The most appropriate shape is an ellipsoid; it is similar to asphere but has three radii, and is more structurally complex like a faceted object.

Project DescriptionThe issue that our project is centered around is modelling binary asteroid systems based on lightcurve data. Our project is a continuation of the work ofTeam Paired Planet Technologiesand Team Andromeda;their work includes a modelling engine with ray tracing for spheres. Render of Sila Nunam System (Source: Team Paired Planet Technologies)Our goal is to expand on their progress and implement shapes that are moremathematically complicated than spheres and can more accurately representasteroids so that astronomers can learn more about what the asteroids actuallylook like.
